How to use the Shopify integration

Vend is the system of record

Once the Vend-Shopify integration is live, Vend acts as the system of record. This is a term used to describe the dominant source for data in connections/systems that may contain multiple sources of the same data. To ensure data integrity, there must be only one system of record, which in this case, is Vend.

Make product changes in Vend

Because of this, if you ever wish to make changes to products that are linked, this will need to be completed in Vend. Any changes/updates to products in Vend will force them to update in Shopify also.

Vend will push over any changes for linked products when:

  • A product is saved in the edit product page
  • A product CSV is imported
  • A product is sold
  • A refund or exchange is done on Vend
  • An inventory count, stock order, stock transfer or stock adjustment is completed

Vend pushes over all product data whenever a change occurs

Vend will push over all product information whenever an update/change is made. An example of this is if you have set up formatted descriptions in Shopify for Product A but there are no descriptions in Vend. If you make any changes to Product A within Vend, like changing the price or name, it will push the updates to Shopify including the empty Vend description which will overwrite the formatted Shopify description.

What can be managed in Shopify

If you wish to make edits to your products in Shopify, these are the five things that can be edited in Shopify without breaking the link with Vend:

  • Images*
  • Collections
  • UPC/Barcode
  • Shipping Weight
  • Compare at Price

* Vend will push images on initial publish, but never after. For products that are linked, manage images on Shopify.
