Error: "Must Balance 219" - WorldPay (triPOS)


While completing a sale - Payment on the terminal will continuously get declined, printing out a merchant receipt - "error: must balance 219"


  • Vend for Mac or PC
  • Vend on iPad
  • WorldPay TriPOS payment terminal  


  • The end of day batch settlement/closing process has not been completed 
  • Date and time not set correctly on the payment terminal


This error message means that you need to close/settle the existing batch, the terminal won’t allow any new transactions until the batch is closed. Reach out to WorldPay to assist and they should be able to help with auto-batching the terminal.

Additional Information

After a credit card/debit cards transactions are completed for the end of the day, the “settlement stage” or batch processing begins. It is called batch processing because a number (or batch) of transactions is settled all at one time to the merchant service provider/the bank.
