Using your Evo Payment Terminal with Vend

Evo Payments simplifies payments around the globe and makes payments simple, secure and reliable. This article will talk you through how to set up your Evo payment terminal and how to use your payment terminal in store.

How to set up each payment terminal

The following steps will need to be followed for each Evo payment terminal you want to use. 

Important: Each payment terminal can only be paired with one Register at a time.


Connect the Evo payment terminal

1. Connect the payment terminal to a power source.

2. Turn the payment terminal on.

3. Plug your payment terminal into your Internet router using an Ethernet cable.

4. Once your payment terminal is connected to the internet, it will display POS Online on the payment terminal screen.

Note: If your payment terminal becomes disconnected, the payment terminal will display POS Offline.

5. You will be asked to set the time on your payment terminal, please ensure this is correct as this will have an impact on the daily batch and settlement.


Create the payment type in Vend

1. Click Setup (on the Vend iPad app this can be found under Dashboard - Setup).

2. Click Payment Types.

3. Click the Add Payment Type.

4. In the Add New Payment Type drop-down, choose Evo.

5. Click Begin Setup.


Connect payment terminal to Vend

1. On the Evo payment type page, enter the name of your Payment Type.

2. In the Pair Payment Terminals section, click Connect a Terminal.

3. A prompt will open stating Evo Payments would like access to your Vend Account. Click the Allow Access.

4. Enter the serial number of the payment terminal you want to pair with this computer.

Note: The serial number can be found on the back of your payment terminal.

5. Click Pair.

6. We'll send a test transaction if $0.01 to make sure the payment terminal is connected and working.

7. In Vend, select Yes to accept, then on the payment terminal choose X to cancel.

8. If you have more than one register, choose which register you'll be using this payment terminal with.

9. Click Next.

10. Fill in your contact information and click Finished.

11. Your payment terminal and payment type will now be set up. Click Save Payment Type. Repeat the process above for each payment terminal you need to connect.

Reassign a payment terminal to a new register

If you want to use a payment terminal you've already connected with a different register, you'll need to reassign it.

1. Select Setup -> Payment Types.

2. Find the Evo payment type and select the pencil icon. This will take you to the Evo payment type page.

3. In the Pair Payment Terminals section, click Connect a Terminal.

5. A prompt will open stating Evo Integrated would like access to your Vend Account. Click the Allow Access.

6. Enter the serial number of the payment terminal you want to reassign.

Note: The serial number can be found on the back of your payment terminal.

7. You will see an error message advising this payment terminal is already connected. Click on the highlighted area.

8. You'll be asked to confirm you want to reassign the payment terminal. Click Yes.

9. We'll send a test transaction to the payment terminal.

10. In Vend, select Yes to accept, then on the payment terminal choose X to cancel.

11. If you have more than one register, choose which register you'll be using this payment terminal with.

12. Select Next.

13. Fill in your contact information.

14. Click Finished.

15. Your payment terminal will now be reassigned.


Taking payment with your Evo payment terminal

On the Vend Sell Screen:

1. Add your items to the sale and click Pay.

2. On the payment screen choose Evo.

3. Vend will display the amount you should receive.

4. The payment terminal will show the amount to pay.

5. Your customer can then tap, swipe, or insert their card to complete payment.

6. Vend will display whether the transaction is accepted or declined.


Processing a manual transaction on your Evo payment terminal

On the Vend Sell Screen:

  1. Add your items to the sale and click Pay.

  2. On the payment screen, screen choose Evo.

  3. The payment terminal will show the amount to pay.

  4. On your payment terminal, key in the Pan, followed by Expiry date and CVC when prompted.

  5. Both the terminal and Vend will show you whether the transaction has been accepted or declined.

Processing a return

Returns are processed using the standard Vend return process. You can see this here.

Once you've selected Evo as the payment type, the transaction will be sent to the payment terminal.
