Why do I have duplicate customers in Vend?

Answer

There are three reasons why you may have duplicate customers in Vend. 

1. Through Ecommerce Platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) 

There are two ways that customers from your Ecommerce Platform sync to Vend:

  • If a customer places an order on your Ecommerce Platform, with an e-mail that already exists for a customer in Vend the order will fall under the existing customer in Vend
  • If a customer places an order on your Ecommerce Platform, with an e-mail that does not link to a customer in Vend, this will create a new customer in Vend

Vend will not update customer details changed on your Ecommerce Platform. Any updates made on your Ecommerce Platform to customer fields will not send over to Vend after the initial customer creation.

2. CSV Customer Edits

If you are editing existing customers in your Vend store using a CSV and the customer code column is deleted, this will create duplicate customers. 

3. Adding Customers to the Sell Screen

If a customer already exists in your Vend store and comes in to make a purchase, a user might not be able to search for them and could create a new profile for them.
