Using tiered Buy Promotions to encourage bulk purchases

To use a tiered promotion to incentivise customers to buy more, you will need to set up a new promotion in your store. You may also set up a tiered promotion with minimum and maximum quantity values. To do this, follow the steps below:

How to set up the first promotion tier

Step 1

Navigate to the Promotions section under Products and select Add Promotion.

Step 2

Add general details about your promotion such as a name, a short description and the duration that you want to run the offer for. Don't forget to set the outlet or outlets you wish to set your promotion for.

Step 3

Select Advanced in the Type of Promotion section.

Step 4

Choose the condition Buys the following items from the drop-down box next to When a Customer.

Step 5

Another box should appear called Buy. You will notice under the Quantity box, that there is an option to Set a min or max. Select this.

Note: You can also run this type of promotion by setting a specific quantity for each tier, rather than creating minimum/maximum quantity ranges. For example:

  • Buy 1 shirt and save 10%.

  • Buy 2 shirts and save 15%.

  • Buy 3 shirts and save 20%.

Step 6

Here you can choose whether you want to apply the promotion to all of your products, or only to specific products. In this example, we have chosen Specific to specify the type of product we wish to run the promotion for.

Step 7

Set your minimum and maximum values. As this is your first tier, set your first tier values. In this example we have chosen, a minimum of 1 and maximum of 5.

Note: If you wish to run a tiered promotion across all the products in your store, select All and skip to Step 9 below.

Step 8

Add a tag, type, brand, supplier or SKU in the Add a filter field. In this example, we have chosen to filter the promotion by the tag shirt.

Note: When setting up your tiered promotion it is important to make sure that all the terms of your promotion (i.e. the product, the reward and the date range) stay the same for each tier. For example, if you set up the first tier to offer a fixed price for a number of shirts, then your next tier will also need to be a fixed price promotion for a number of shirts. Your tiered promotion will not work if you have different products in each tier. They will be set as separate promotions in your store.

Step 9

Choose a reward for your customers from the drop-down box next to Then they will. This selects the reward that your customers will receive under this promotion. In this example, we have chosen Pay a fixed price. This means that when your customer buys a certain number of items, they will get the items for a fixed price.

Note: The other reward options available are Get the following items, Save a certain amount and Earn extra Loyalty. For more information on these rewards, see our Multi-Save Promotions article or our Conditional Promotions article.

Step 10

The final step is to select whether to make your promotion Available to Everyone, or make it Exclusive to Some. Once you have done this, click Save at the top of the screen.

How to set up the next promotion tier

Now that you have set up your first promotion tier, you can set up additional tiers to offer your customers even more savings when they purchase more items in your store.

Step 1

In order to set up a tiered promotion, you will need to set up a New Promotion (see steps above) or Duplicate your first tiered promotion and adjust the min/max values.

You can Duplicate a promotion by selecting Duplicate when you edit your promotion.

Step 2

Selecting Duplicate allows you to duplicate the terms of your promotion. Update the name and description of your duplicated promotion to distinguish it from the first tiered promotion that you set. Do not change the promotion's date range.

Step 3

In the Buy section, select the new minimum and maximum values for the next level of your tier. In this example, we have chosen 6 - 10. All other fields will remain the same, including the products being offered as part of the promotion, as well as the reward (in this case, Pay a fixed price).

Step 4

Click Save at the top of your screen and the next tier for your promotion will be set. If you wish to set another tier, follow the steps above again, amending the minimum and maximum values for each additional tier.

What this means

In this example, if a customer buys between 1 to 5 shirts, they will fall under the first tier and pay a total fixed price of $15. If they buy 6 to 10 shirts, they will fall under the second tier, and pay a total fixed price of $20.

How does this look when making a sale

When selling an item under a tiered promotion, the discount and the promotion tier will be displayed on the Sell Screen, under the item that is being purchased.

Using tiered Spend Promotions to encourage greater spend

Using tiered Spend Promotions allows you to encourage your customers to spend more in your store to receive rewards.

First, decide what type of Spend promotion you wish to set. Your options are:

Step 2

Click on the linked articles above, and follow the steps detailed in the articles to set up the first tier of your Spend Promotion. In the example below, we have chosen to set a first tier for a Spend and earn loyalty promotion.

Note: When setting up your tiered promotion it is important to make sure that all the terms of your promotion (i.e. the product, the reward and the date range) stay the same for each tier. For example, if you set up the first tier to offer loyalty dollars for an amount spent for a number of shirts, then your next tier will also need to be a spend and earn loyalty promotion for a number of shirts. Your tiered promotion will not work if you have different products in each tier. They will be set as separate promotions in your store.

Complete the sale as normal, and once completed, your customer will be awarded Loyalty dollars according to the promotion tier you have set.
